Location Recces
Forest Location (294 Blue Boar Lane, Sprowston, Norwich)
Photos were taken at around 12pm on a day with light cloud, matching the conditions in which I will be shooting. This location is a generally quiet public wooded area; its medium size, parking facilities, and density (hiding the surrounding area) make it an ideal location for the shoot. In the hour I spent at the location, I only came across one dog walker, and from previous experience of this forest, I know that this is not unusual; this means that the risk of disturbing members of the public is very low, which should allow for an smooth-sailing shoot. In addition to this, the density of the trees in this area is not enough to obscure the light levels from outside to a noticeable degree; this means that it is logistically possible to use natural lighting, as is conventional of indie rock/alternative music videos.
In case of the event of having to make an emergency phone call due to an accident (which is unlikely), I was able to receive full mobile phone signal throughout all of the areas I visited within this location.
General Wooded Areas & Trails
Several sequences within the video require tracking shoots following the lead character as he walks through the woods, as well as static shots requiring a tripod; this location features many footpaths and flat open areas which could accommodate such requirements. In addition to most of the pathways being flat, many of them also have zero potential obstructions (as seen in the bottom-left photo above) making it a very low-risk environment for both the cast and crew.
The bottom-middle photo above shows an area of the woods which is particularly sparse and eerie, which would be a suitable location for the brief sequence in which we see the ghost slowly pacing around the frame; due to the limited sight which will be offered by the costume, it is very important that this sequence is shot in an area with minimal obstruction, which this location accommodates. From a creative perspective, I also like this area of the woods because of its slightly eerie feel, matching the desired tone of my video; the almost-barren feel of the area makes it feel as if the trees have been carefully and individually placed there, almost like an other-worldly place.
Clearing
Both the beginning and the end of the music video take place in a clearing in a forest, making use of the narrative theory of a circular narrative, matching the convention of indie-rock/alternative music videos featuring unconventional narrative structures (although, in this case, this interpretation is up to the audience). This location features one clearing, which is slightly larger than the size of a tennis court, making it a suitable size for the shoot, giving me the option to include establishing shots and long shots, as desired. The opening shot of the video requires the lead actor to lay on the floor; on the day I visited (dry, light cloud, matching the desired shooting conditions), the ground was dry and stable, making this a logistically-sound location for this shot. The clearing itself is particularly secluded and a good distance away from the path which is typically followed by dog walkers in the area, meaning that the shoot in this area is likely to be distraction free. As with the previous location in the woods, there is a high enough level of natural lighting that I won't have to provide artificial lighting. This is helpful because this location has no electricity outlets, so I would have had to provide my own power source if this was the case.
House Location (Sprowston, Norwich)
Photos were taken at around 1pm on a day with light cloud, matching the conditions in which I will be shooting.
Window Overlooking Garden
Two sequences within the video, as well as one shot towards the end, require the lead character to be standing at a large window overlooking his garden. This location facilitates this requirement, as well as providing ample space around the window for equipment, allowing for the option of long-shots (see left photo) as required. The dining table in the centre of the room can easily be moved, giving me further freedom to place the tripod and/or camera where I desire in the room (although I must maintain the location/setup of the table when it is seen on camera, so I do not create distracting continuity errors). Several shots also require the camera to be framed so that it is looking directly through the window. An initial worry I had was that the camera would be visible in the reflection of the window, tarnishing any immersion created in the video, however, the light levels in the room (and the cleanliness of the window) mean that this is not an issue.
Garden
Another key location for this shoot is a suburban/British back garden, which the house location offers. The benefit of the garden being in the same location as the house interior is that it allows for a more unrestricted use of continuity editing, allowing me to cut between the two locations without creating errors or gaps in continuity. The immediate surroundings of the garden are also low, meaning that no large shadows are created, allowing for a more naturalistic lighting aesthetic, as seen in A Ghost Story (2017), which I have previously referred to as a key point of inspiration for the aesthetic of my video. This location also offers a large amount of flat, open space, allowing for freedom to use a variety of camera shots and angles.

Permission Proof
Transcript of email::
"Hi,
My name is Ewan Tough and I’m a Sixth Form student at City
College Norwich in the UK.
As part of my Media Studies work, I have to create a
promotional package for an existing music track, including a music video,
poster, and a Digipak design.
The track which I have chosen is Husky’s song, “Ghost”, and
I am writing to you today to try and ensure that you, as Husky’s record label,
give permission for me to use it.
I must emphasize that this is purely a college project and
is entirely non-profit and for educational means – it will only be submitted
for examination.
I would be very grateful if you were to grant me this
permission, and I look forward to your response.
Many thanks,
Ewan Tough"
